Gym Couture

So lately I've been going to the gym, which is good. It's a good de-stresser, makes me think about what I eat, etc.

So of course, wherever I go I have a habit of looking at what people are wearing. Usually I don't really look at the gym because no one really looks hot working out. It's a sea of sweats and t-shirts or cute gym clothes if you're a girlie girl and can afford to pay the money for it. I tend to pick 1 of the 50 or so sorority shirts I got in college, mostly because I won't wear them in public.

A few days ago I was rocking the elliptical when I looked to my right and saw some guy lifting weights wearing cargo pants, a polo shirt, and flip flops. I thought this was a little weird: 1) isn't that a little "nice" to wear to the gym? 2) open-toe shoes in the gym, let alone near the weights, seems deadly. I decided that this guy must be from out of town and visiting a friend, didn't have gym clothes and this was his best option.

Today I was at the gym and I saw not 1, but 3 people dressed the same way. 2 of the guys were doing the polo shirt thing while this girl was wearing jeans and uggs.

The whole thing reminded me of the Cribs episode where Mariah Carey put on her 5 inch stilettos and jumped on her stair-master. Did I miss the memo that gym couture was changing, or am I just out of the loop?

Love is a Mix Tape

I used to love to read. When I was younger, I would read 3 books at a time and actually skip watching episodes of my favorite shows like Fresh Prince and Blosson (you KNOW you watched Blossom too) just to see what happened next in whatever book I was reading. Now, I still read 3 books at a time...they're just law books. Last summer I actually had the chance to read for fun again, and I found myself looking for an "issue" or "holding". It was absolutely ridiculous and less than enjoyable. So a few weeks ago I decided that I really need to start reading books for fun again.

A few nights ago I finished "Love is a Mix Tape" which was something that I totally got. In high school, I was the queen of the mix tape and today I have a zillion playlists with funny titles that represent what's going on in my life at the time. The way Rob Sheffield tells his story through these mix tapes was unbelievable. Loved it. So if you're a music junkie like me, check it out.

Doughnut Goodness

About once a day I think about something I miss about Chicago - Snow (only when it's falling, not when it's all slushy and dirty), the skyline when driving down Lake Shore Drive on a sunny summer day, singing oldies in the car with Tiffany, Cubs games...the list is endless. What do I miss today? Dunkin' Donuts.

While I love living in California, the doughnuts here don't cut it. Here is a conversation I have pretty often:

Friend: Ooo, doughnuts!
Me: Eh...
Friend: But it's Krispy Kreme!!!
Me: Yea I'm not a fan
Friend: But they are delicious!
Me: They're not Dunkin' Donuts

I don't know what's up with me but I've been seriously craving a good doughnut. Cakey, powdery, delicious. Perhaps it's this limited carb kick that I'm on. But every day on my drive home down 280, I see the big Krispy Kreme sign and I get a little sad. What makes it worse is that there are Dunkin' Donuts commercials on TV. Is there a Dunkin' Donuts anywhere near here? Absolutely not.

If I ever win the lottery, I swear I'm going to open one

He's a Rebel

I'm supposed to be sitting here doing homework...instead I'm watching "Rebel Without a Cause". I've never seen it before, which is surprising considering how much I love 1950's culture. My oh my is James Dean dreamy!

After a week of picking out names for the puppy (ridiculous, I know)....we've decided on Brodie. We named him after the character Brodie Bruce in Mallrats. Don't know who that is? Go rent it...Mallrats is one of our favs and since Matt is a massive Kevin Smith fan, it totally fits.
